Stand-alone firms include those firms classified in the database as 'private Indian' and 'private foreign'. Government controlled firms include all those that are classified as central, joint and state government enterprises. We exclude co-operative sector firms (less than 0.2% of total number) and small & ancillary units (defined by Govt of India).
